SC type connectors and other traditional connectors are characterized by "adhesive type" connectors, which have complex manufacturing processes and large volumes. In order to make the fiber optic ports and installation process fast, simple, and clean, without adhesion, crimp type fiber optic connection technology and its corresponding LC (LCight Crimp Plus) type fiber optic connectors have emerged and been rapidly popularized.
The components of the LC type connector include a precision ceramic ferrule, a segmented crimper, and an external protective sleeve with color coding. Plastic material, compatible with TIA/EIA, IEC, CECC, and EN standards, available in two types: multimode connectors and single mode connectors.
LC type connectors can provide consistent crimping performance and are small in size (their dual adapters are equivalent to RJ-45 sockets); The typical insertion loss is MM=0.20db, SM=0.15db, and the return loss is SM ≤ 50d, ≤ 35. The temperature range for use is -10~65 ℃.
When using an LC type connector, it is necessary to use the crimping tool components that are compatible with the connector, including wire stripping tools, cutting knives, crimping tool cable brackets, thread length guides, LC grinding tools, etc. The manufacturing process for ST connectors is much simpler, with only 4 steps.
1. Peel off the cable, select the appropriate stripping tool from the toolbox, peel off the outer jacket (outer layer) and outer jacket (inner layer) of the optical cable, and clean the optical fiber with alcohol and tissue/cloth.
2. Cut off the optical fiber. Thread the optical fiber through the external protective sleeve with color code, as well as the ceramic ferrule and crimper installed on the crimping tool, and use a cutting knife to cut the fiber cross-section that meets the requirements.
3. Press the connector. After positioning the LC connection component of the fiber, crimp the LC connector with a standard hand-held crimping tool.
4. Check the LC connector using the same method as the SC.ST connector.
